Takuya Kato received the B.S., M.S. and Dr. of Science degrees in physics from Tokyo University of Science, Tokyo, Japan, in 2001, 2003, and 2006, respectively.

From 2006 to 2011, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Tokyo University of Science, where he worked on the study of local electronic structure in the Cu- and Fe-based high-temperature superconductors. In 2011, he joined Solar Frontier K.K., Atsugi, Japan, as a Research Scientist and started research of chalcogenide thin-film solar cells including chalcopyrite and kesterite. He has been engaged in the development of high-performance solar cells and modules with fundamental study and characterizations of the devices and materials. Since 2016, he has been a Senior Scientist in the Atsugi Research Center and in charge of Japanese NEDO PV R&D project with Solar Frontier. Now he is working at the Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd.
