Antimony sulfide-selenide [Sb2(S,Se)3] is a class of unconventional light harvesting materials that has attracted considerable interests in solar cell applications. In these compounds, the change in S/Se is able to generate continuously tunable bandgap in the range of 1.1-1.8 eV, along with the high absorption coefficient. Moreover, this class of materials possess advantages including low-toxicity, long-term durability and abundant elemental availability. In this presentation I will talk about the our recent research in solution processed Sb2S3 and Sb2(S,Se)3 thin films for device applications: (1) the methodology regarding dissolution of antimony oxide by amine-thiol mixed organic solvent for the synthesis of Sb2S3 films; (2) the introduction of selenium into Sb2S3 film to form Sb2(S,Se)3 is able to essentially improve the photocurrent density, owing to the dereased band gap. Coupling with the optimization on the interface between electron extraction layer and Sb2(S,Se)3 film, Sb2(S,Se)3 solar cells delivered power conversion efficiency of ~10%.
